A number of formal and industry standards exist for bicycle components to help make spare parts exchangeable and to maintain a minimum product safety. Types
In some countries, bicycles must have functioning front and rear lights when ridden after dark. Alistair Craig, whose company eventually emerged to become the engine manufacturers Ailsa Craig, also started from manufacturing bicycles, in Glasgow in March 1885.
